The SDX3-100C cartridge offers a massive 100 GB of native capacity, or 260 GB in compressed form. When used with an AIT-3 drive, the new format delivers transfer rates of 12 MB/s in native form and 31 MB/s in compressed form. The SDX3-100C cartridge employs the non-contact R-MIC (Remote Memory In Cassette) system, in which IC-card memory technology is used to enable faster and easier control.

The AIT format, featuring Sony's advanced high-density recording technology, provides massive data storage capacity in compact 8-mm cartridges that are much smaller than other high-capacity data cartridge formats on the market. The SDX3-100C cartridge offers 100 GB of storage space in native form and is less than 40% of the size of a half-inch single reel cartridge of equivalent capacity.
