Pen-Click Design Failing

I have had the 4 GB version of this PQI for about 6 months. The clicker/pen-click design is beginning to fail and the item will not fully retract into the rest of the unit without help at this point. Also, the lack of a cap means that the primary insert point is still open to fuzz/lint/dirt because the system is not fully enclosed. Nice thought--but more of a gimmick than something that actually functions to preserve the unit and safeguard your data. Now I'm looking for a replacement.

The primary reason for buying this drive was to ease portability of large documents (Visio) in addition to revisions and supporting documentation that would be too cumbersome to email or maintain on DVD. The overall build is about what you would expect but I was shocked at the slow writes to the drive, significantly slower than my other two thumb drives both of which are older and smaller. Reads and writes were tested across a range of desktops and laptops (An IBM T42, Apple Powerbook, Dell Optiplex 720 and my home custom workstation) but performance was the same - slow. If you need a large portable drive for documents that do not change much then this drive could be considered, otherwise I'd spend a little more to get the speed that this drive clearly lacks.

This is a great drive. It is plenty fast enough for managing portable files and data. I use it to cart files between work and home - it's a pocket briefcase. You push the end button much like a ballpoint pen to click out the USB connector. You can push the button again to retract. Also, the simple action of pulling the drive out of a USB port will impart enough pressure to snap the connector part back into the case. Nice feature that lets you pull it and pocket it without any additional clicks, caps, etc. The only con is that I am not sure it is fast enough to be used as a ReadyBoost with Vista (but that's not why I got it anyway).
