This is a great gadget that helps you save more than just a few watts! It's like your first flashlight, that you would use it to see everything in a different light. With it, you will find which appliances in your home are the silent "electricity vampires" that cost you electricity money even when idle or unused. You will also be able to compare appliances for their efficiencies, and pick the one(s) that work better and save your money. For example, I have two toasters that I had no idea which one is more efficient until I used the Kill-A-Watt to compare their power usage under various settings. After I found out one uses only about half of the power of the other (while producing the same results), I packed the "power hog" up and never uses it again. With the electricity rates going up each year, this is a great tool to have to help you identify where your electricity money goes. It makes you aware of the power usage of each individual appliance you have, and helps you choose your next appliance if power efficiency is of your primary concern (which is becoming more prevalent at this age). With more people becoming power aware, it may even lead to a ripple effect that ultimately forces the manufacturers to design and manufacture more power-efficient/competitive appliances for us to choose. So if it looks like a win-win investment in the long run, why not get one and start saving now?

If it displays 1 watt is being used with out an device plugged in, it is defective and needs to be returned. I am still waiting on a replacement to know if all are like this. Tech said they should not show any watts being used if nothing is plugged in.
