Misleading manufacturer description... these are -not- TY 'Watershield' discs

A previous reviewer implied these were the Taiyo Yuden 'Watershield' discs being sold via the new JVC moniker.

That is simply not true, and the description by online retailers is misleading at best... downright deceptive at worst. These are known by JVC/TY as 'PrintPlus' discs.

In fact these are positioned between the high-end TY WaterShield media and JVC 'value-line' ink-jet discs.

Yes, the data recording quality is superb, and yes they are waterproof, acceptable for in-house use... but I would not use these for a critical marketing project.

The problem is, the surface has a gritty, orange-peel appearance which falls short of TY Watershield discs.

Ink dries quickly and these JVC discs are indeed water-proof, but the dimpled surface has a sub-prime quality.

It almost seems as if these are factory 'seconds' which did not pass Watershield quality-tests. i.e. the data side is perfectly fine, but the printable surfaces are Watershield rejects, re-purposed as 'PrintPlus' discs.

Compared to my -real- TY Watershield CD-R discs, there is NO comparison. I printed the same image on both, and these look inferior and grainy next to TY Watershields.

To be certain, they are superior to most matte ink-jet surfaces and disc integrity is typical of TY quality.

However, I ordered these with the impression they were the TY Watershield DVD+R discs sold under the JVC name.

TY quality, but -3 stars for dubious marketing tactics.

If you need something more durable and brighter than matte finish ink-jet discs, go for these. Otherwise, just buy -real- TY Watershields, unless you need DVD+R.

I really wish TY Watershields were available in DVD+R

Anyone know why TY doesn't make +R Watershield DVDs?

the best product for printing dvd's

We have a mom and pop video making business and have been using these dvd's for the last year or so. they work perfectly with never an error. We try to buy everything from SupermediaStore because they are really fast and have great prices.the "reorder" button makes the transition even faster...

No coasters, nice printing surface

I have burned and printed on several of these JVC disks and the results have been fine. The images I print on these disks are more clearly defined than the Verbatim and Memorex printable disks that I have used.
It's not as great a difference in quality like when going from plain paper printing to photo paper printing, but on that order.

Not happy with the product

The discs seem to burn okay, but when you run them through your inkjet printer, it smears. I won't be buying these again.
