Very nice unit. Only drawback is that it doesn't come with Mac software.

This was one of four "backup appliances" I recently purchased (the others were hard drive based, and purchased elsewhere), and probably the only one that actually performed better than its specs.

My first test was of its stand-alone operation: dumping a CF card to CD, which it performed with surprising efficiency.

The second test was to copy an audio CD on my Linux box. While no Linux software was bundled with the unit, Brasero (included in Ubuntu) recognized it instantly, and I had no difficulty whatsoever duplicating the CD.

Finally, there was my Macintosh. This was rather important, as the internal DVD drive has gotten very finicky in its old age. According to the docs, the unit requires USB 2.0 for CD burning, and my Mac only has USB 1.1. Moreover, there was no Mac software bundled with the unit, and I couldn't get the system to recognize the unit as a CD burner. So I looked for something to download, and the second open source solution I tried, "Burn," although it wouldn't do a direct copy, it would recognize the unit, and did allow me to create a playable audio CD from the tracks on a CD in the internal drive. EVEN WITHOUT USB 2.0!
