Many consumers may be wondering why in the world HDMI cables have transformed from Version 1.2 to 1.3 and how big of a difference this makes for users. If you haven?gCN read up on this, you?XOEe in for a surprise when you see how this small change has already made big impressions.
There are four main features to Version 1.3:
- Increase in MHz: HDMI 1.3 increases its bandwidth from 165MHz (4.95 Gpbs) to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support future Hi-Def display devices up to 1440p in resolution. More MHz equals a higher speed.
- Deep Color and Broader Color Space: HDMI 1.3 supports 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths. What does this mean? Well instead of millions of colors displayed on your HD TV, you?l be viewing billions of detailed colors. It allows your set to display any and every color perceptible to the human eye.
- Lip Sync: This newer version not only enhances visual quality, but the precision of visual and audio quality together. HDMI 3.1 offers synchronization of the two flawlessly.
- New HD lossless audio formats:HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio?

** = CEC has been in the HDMI specification since version 1.0 but has only begun to be used in CE products with HDMI version 1.3.
*** = Large number of additions and clarifications for CEC commands. One addition is CEC command allowing for volume control of an AV receiver.
**** = Playback of SACD may be possible for older revisions if the signal source (such as the Oppo 970) converts to LPCM. For those receivers that have only PCM DAC converters and not DSD, this means that no additional resolution loss occurs.
***** = Even for audio bitstream formats that a given HDMI revision can not transport, it may still be possible to decode the bitstream in the player and transmit the audio as LPCM. I have 6 of these in use right now. And I paid less for all six than I would have for ONE in a local retailer. All work flawlessly for video and sound. Why waste $$$ on an HDMI cable when these for $ will do the trick? It's a no-brainer.

This is my first HDMI experience, so I don't have much to compare with. It seems great with a PS3 and TC-P42S1, especially compared to the stock PS3 composite video cable I was using beforehand.

Great price. most 6' are HDMI cables are really 5'6" or shorter, these are 6' long.

I work with all kinds of cable and cannot believe the standard for HDMI is CAT2, especially @ such inflated prices. these cables were a package deal and, truth be told, I really needed longer cables. I bought an RCA HDMI coupler @ Home depot (of all places)for $12. and joined 2 6' cables w/no signal loss on a sony blue ray player. I saw a 6' cat 2 monster cable for close to $100 @ Radio crap shack! these cables were 3 for less than $15 and work great!
