I use Taiyo Yuden DVD +R single-layer blank discs and have found them to be very reliable. Unfortunately, Taiyo Yuden apparently does not offer double-layer discs. However, I have had very good experience with the Verbatim discs and they are the only brand of DLs that I will use.

I used to buy a number of different brands of dual layer dvd's and I used to have a number of bad discs from a number of different manufacturers, sometimes as high as 15 to 20%. During this period one thing began to make itself clear to me, Verbatim discs were not experiencing the same failure rate of the others. In fact of all the several thousand Verbatim discs I have burned over the years I don't think I have had more than 5 to 10 bad ones if even that. I mean failures happen so rarely that I can't really remember the last time it happened. Do yourself a favor, spend a few bucks more and get something that works.

These seem to be the best double layer + media out there. I wish there were more competition in this double layer media product by the good media manufacturers. I beleive there is room for improvement. They work better than the rest, I've tried them.

I can safely say I've never thrown away a Verbatim 2.4X double-layer disc due to a burn failure. Although a bit more expensive than the economy brands, I feel they're worth it in the end.

Useful for transcribing VHS to DVD

I use these for transcribing VHS or programs on the TIVO to DVD at 1x speed. They work very well at this speed - never had a failure. I haven't tried them at other speeds.

I wish the other good dvd disc manufacturer would get involved and get more competition as I feel there is room for improvement in double layer discs, but that being said, SMS prices are good and the shipping is GREAT.

Great product, like most media, there are better batches than others, but this media produces very, very few bad ones, as I test each and every burn with cdspeed. Especially now, that I've found the LG(Hitachi) burner works great with them.

i ordered lightscribe and these are not. I arrived at site by way of a search for verbatim dual layer light scribe search. I ordered from that page and received single layer disc. Verbatim are good disc but sony, memorex and HP disc all work fine with my laptop and at half the cost.

I used to buy Verbatim DL blanks at Sam's Club. They had a far lower price than any other retailer. Sam's recently stopped selling Verbatim products and began offering one of the worst brands of DL discs: Memorex. Fortunately I found Super Media Store! Their prices are comparable to what I paid at Sam's, and you have more options regarding quantities.
These discs are the royalty of blank DL discs. I burn them at the rate of 50 or so per month and I would say that the failure rate is probably less than 1%. There was a point about two years ago that Verbatim seemed to be having some quality control issues; I was getting as many as 10 failures in a 50 disc spindle. But things got fixed and the reliability of these discs is fantastic.

Verbatim's DVD+R DL media is the most reliable for archiving large files and images. The company has had some complaints due to it outsourcing its production to other countries but the "Made in Singapore" media is the best solution for the average consumer.

Don't waste your money on FTI Falcon Media

Go Verbatim all the way. If you are like me, you're probably debating whether or not getting the cheaper discs is good value for your money. IT'S NOT. Pay the extra $$$ and buy Verbatim, not a single coaster with Verbatim, with Falcon Media, practically every other disc was trash. AND didn't burn properly or play reliably in all my dvd players. The last thing you want is to archive data then months later popping that disc and realizing it doesn't work. FTI is the WORST brand I've ever used so much so I was inspired to write my first review here. Complete rubbish.
