Review of [EOL] Taiyo Yuden Silver Inkjet Printable 8X DVD+R Media 100 Pack in Cake Box

-- When it comes to blank DVD's this has been my brand & source for years... would love to see TY produce a Lightscribe disc.

The spindle was broken when I opened the box but no DVDs were damaged.

I have not tried this brand yet.

TY is really the only choice for reliable media. A bit pricier, but what good is archival if the archive is useless?

I purchased this brand because it's reported to offer good archival durability/longevity. Hopefully, I'll never know! The inkjet surface takes Sharpie easily. The cakebox design is a little awkward in that there are no stops to ensure the cover is "locked" -- it can rotate freely, with just a little less resistance when it's in an "open" position every 90 degrees. So I'll just have to be more careful when lifting it from the top. It's not like I bought them for the packaging.

My pick for DVD media

Love these Disks......changed the way I do business.

I have been buying this dvd from Supermedia Store since 2005. Burn about 8-10 dvd movies a week. After 2500+ copies, I have had only 2 or 3 disc failures during making the copies and when you go back and play one thats 6 years old,its like new. You can't beat Taiyo Yuden and the fast delivery from Supermedia.

Burns with my drives at the lowest end speeds permitted, 2.4X and 4X, are data-verified by Nero burn app with zero errors, even when read up to 16X for a full disc. And Nero read buffer display stays full, no drops to slow down and go back to read segments again. NO COASTERS. Haven't tried higher speeds yet. For IMPORTANT totally reliable backups, slowest drive burn speed is BEST, worth the extra time!
JUST ONE MORE THING: Someone PLEASE tell Taiyo-Yuden in Japan to put TIGHT foam rings down over the spindle to prevent disc movement during shipping. The first 6 to 10 discs in the stack slide, rotate and vibrate and scuff the outer 1/8 inch, so can't burn full to edge on those few! Otherwise those discs burn OK.

After wasting time & money on Memorex, Sony, HP and TDK blanks, I heard about Taiyo Yuden.

Since then, I've used over 400 with absolutely no problems.

These have worked flawlessly in both a Compaq Presario SR1917CL PC w/ Windows XP Media Center 2005 & a Panasonic DMR-EZ27 DVD recorder.

Has been my only choice for blanks for the past year.

I had always used the white printable disks in the past, but decided to give the silver inkjet a try. I love the way these print. Looks a bit like a light scribe disk, but in color. I have only burned about 20 disks so far, but have all burned good with no issues
