Review of JVC Taiyo Yuden Silver Lacquer Printable 16X DVD+R Media 100 Pack in Cake Box

ONE STAR QUALITY!!! Almost Junk!!!
(for the Taiyo Yuden standards)

I am SAD! I've been using these for years and swearing by them. When people come to me with horror stories of rolling coasters all day long, I steer them to Taiyo Yuden. Next time I see them, they're happy campers.

When I saw "JVC/Taiyo Yuden", I thought "Oh no... JVC has purchased Taiyo Yuden and now the quality is gonna tank!". Imagine my relief when I researched it only to find that Taiyo Yuden simply purchased the JVC name for product recognition.

Then I started burning disks with my newly purchased "JVC/Taiyo Yuden" disks. They stunk... I mean like a dead skunk in the middle of the road (at least for Taiyo Yuden disks). For the first time in many years of using these disks, I started experiencing burn failures. I tried several different drives but nothing helped.

Testing the failures AND the successes showed a MUCH lower quality disk than I'd ever experienced before with Taiyo Yuden. It is VERY disappointing. I've tested around 50 disks from this last batch and only 3 or 4 of them portrayed the level of quality I've come to expect from Yaiyo Yuden.

All you guys that have been burning Yuden T03's for years really should run a check on your recent batches. I think you may be surprised at what you find. You may no longer simply assume that the name "Taiyo Yuden" equates to high quality disks.

I take NO JOY in writing this review. It really does make me sad to see the hallmark DVD crash and burn like this. I will try ONE MORE batch (hoping I just received a bad batch) before I toss these to the winds. I still blame Taiyo Yuden for letting this batch slip through their quality control. That's NOT the way to do business.

Package arrived poorly packed, merrchandise obviously opened previously. Discs were unsealed, loose and not sealed. Dust dirt and other contaminants on surface of discs.

I have just recently found this site and this my first experience. First, the product arrived with free shipping in TWO days - two thumbs up! It was packed in large box with plastic pillows - nothing damaged. As for this media, some have had problems with the 100 pack cake box plastic spindle breaking in transit, mine arrived intact. One thing though - DON'T lift stack by the top of cake box, catch at bottom not strong enough to support the weight of 100 disks! You'll be picking them off the floor! I put a few in a 15 or 25 smaller cake box and refill as needed. Some have said the disk is hard to tell which surface is the burnable one. Not so. The top is a blank, yes completely blank, no lines, logos, names - nada. Kinda rainbow, silvery shine to it. The bottom, burnable side is the typical blue so no prob as to up or down, besides, yer machine knows. Have only used a dozen or so - with no frisebee's, and dont expect any! Quality stuff from quality company

I've not yet burned anything to these Taiyo Yuden discs. But I expect them to work great.

Have burnt ~300 DVDs using these TY DVDs. Generally burn at 8X but media burns reliably at 22X. Had one coaster so far. Super Media Store is rock solid. It is the only place I have bought media for months.

I bought a 100 pack of these first time in June of 2010. I was almost out of the first 100 so I bought another 100 with this order. Hopefully they will be as good quality as the first 100... not a single coaster burned in the entire 100 pack. I also VERY MUCH APPRECIATED the fact that supermediastore.com "remembered" my order from last June since I did not want to hunt for the packing slip from the order from last June. Thanks supermediastore.com for remembering my order for a year!

Burn error free. No coasters yet. Every bit as good as the old RICOH JPN in my experience for whatever that's worth...

I have burned well over 1500 Taiyo Yuden dvd's and don't recall ever making a coaster ... great product. They were delivered quickly and were packaged well. I will be ordering again soon.

Been using these now for a little over 3 years. Have never had any bad experiences with them. Very good product IMO with few if any frisbee experiences!

This is my first time using the Taiyo Yuden DVD media. I am very pleased with the quality. The delivery was great, and the price was hardly more than other DVD media.

I fisrt bought TY due to life expectancy claims. I also have purchased several hundred and do not recall a 'coaster' that was the product's fault. 'Nuff said.

They arrived in just a few days. All DVDs appear to be in good order. I've burned about 10 of them so far. My computer rejected one of them although I don't see anything wrong with the disc itself. These are supposed to be the best DVDs out there. I bought them for archiving family photos and video for church services.

This is a good DVD. Excellent for archiving all of my music and videos.

I was looking for a good media to store my valuable files and pictures on. I put the disks to a very ruff test and it is almost indestructable. Better than any of my other disks. I am very happy with them.

I have bought nothing but Verbatim for 10+ years now. Probably burned 5000 of them over the years. I just can't handle their India garbage anymore, so I decided to try these.

I've burned just over 200 of these so far and only had one failure. One other tried very hard to fail but did not. This is about the same luck I always had with the good Verbatim discs.

These discs do burn at 20x, sometimes briefly touching 21 - 21.9x, especially near the completion of the burn. I have tested about 50 of the discs for errors after the burn and none of them had any errors of any kind, even after burning at 20x.

I have several DVD players, from newer ones to ones that are more than 10 years old and these discs play perfectly in all of them.

The discs themselves are the shiniest and most reflective discs I have ever seen. Once they are burned you have to look closely at them to tell the written side from the top side. It is actually very hard to tell they are silver because they pick up the color of whatever is around them. In direct light they look rainbow colored. The only complaint I have about the discs themselves is that they have no lines to guide you evenly if you decide to write on them. The picture shown here on the website makes them look like they have writing all over them, but they are completely blank.

I don't know why Taiyo Yuden doesn't put the foam "washers" on the top of the discs like other discs manufacturers do. The discs are free to bang up and down about three quarters of an inch inside the cake box. Bad idea. None of them appear to have been damaged though. There is one little foam washer on the bottom of the discs however. But it is nowhere near thick enough to hold them snug in the cake box.

I've used TY DVD+ for several years - never had a problem Wouldn't consider another brand.

A super high quality dvd+r for a great price. I have purchased the JVC Taiyo Yuden Silver Thermal Lacquer 16X DVD+R Media 100 Pack a few times now, and will continue to do so.

It's my policy to only buy this brand for my product. On my last batch, only 1% failed the burning process (I don't know why). I also verify every disc and they all came out perfect. I also noticed they come on a spindle thing now which they didn't years ago when I bought my last batch.

I bought TY DVD+R media for backup archival storage of family digital pictures. There were no issues in burning the discs. I'm hoping that they will be readable in 100 years!

These DVD+R's are thicker than the brand I used to buy (Verbatim MediDisc). These seem to more rigid also - i.e., tougher, and with less "flex".

I've only had the chance to burn 6 discs so far while working on a project, but I'm very pleased with their performance. No coasters, and every player I have put them into has been able to read them flawlessly.

These are both my new "go to" and "long term storage" DVD's, the only ones I'll buy.

Reasonable price for archive quality media. The investment in time archiving is only as good as the reliability of the media over many years... so far so good with Taiyo Yuden.

I love these dvd, never fail on me in fact i think i have had one go bad after 5 years of buying, pretty incrediable if you think about how many dvd we burn. thank you supermedia, love the service too, first class all the way!

Other media I have tried always have seemingly predictable failure rates, some better, some worse. T-Y 16X DVD+R is simply the best I have tried.
SuperMediaStore has always been timely with deliveries and items are packed well.

Great communications and fast shipping. The 100 DVD's are in a container/spindle, a new type for me, that will not stay securely closed. (Plastic to the base)

They need to go back to the old style.

The Taiyo Yuden DVD's are of the highest quality. To date I have purchased a few thousand with not one being defective.

I really love these DVD's for my photo archives. Before coming across these discs, I was searching for a long-term storage option to back up my duplicate hard drives. As a wedding and event photographer, you can never have too many copies of anything. Hard drives fail and when they do, you better have a backup. These discs have been great in helping me stay on top of my archiving needs. Love this brand and SuperMediaStore.com... always a great experience.

I do daily backups to DVD. So I use a 100-spool of these things about every 3 months.

My record is about 2 or 3 coasters per 100-spool. And I guess that's OK.

I haven't done a survey of quality or coaster generation with the lower priced brands, but I am satisfied with this purchase. This brand is well-rated by others (yeah I know, my only contribution here is my track record of 97 or 98 out of 100).

One caution. Make sure you buy the right kind. I inadvertently bought the R- flavor and they lock up my machine to where I have to disconnect the power to restart it.....

This is my second Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD+R 100 pack Order.

Zero failure so far. Delivery was pretty timely too.

I will recommend this product to anyone.
