This DVD is the most compatible to our duplication machines. I liked the semi-glossy surface. It looks really good after printed. Looks like silkscreen. I don't have what to complain. Great price and great DVD.

Disappointed in the Semi-Glossy Surface.

I have been using the water resistant Taiyo Yuden's High Glossy surface for some time now and when I received an email ad for this product I thought the Semi Glossy surface wouldn't be all that different. Since I was buying online I had no way of knowing in advance but decided to take a chance.
Big difference, big mistake.
I'll be replacing with high glossy surface and using these for demo material.

My 1st Ever Disappointment in Taiyo Yuden Media

Talk about inconsistent quality. I usually order JVC Taiyo Yuden Water Shield DVD-R media, which I have good luck with in the quality burn department. Using Nero DiscSpeed (disc quality check) I get between 92% and 97% ratings. On the JVC Taiyo Yuden PrintPlus Semi Glossy (this product being reviews) after 42 burns, the quality ratings ranged from 23% to 80%. Over 50% of them were below 40%!
What I don’t get is that both product discs are coded TYG03. I think the issue is the adhesive used to hold the two surfaces together. I was able to use my virtually non-existent nails and in less than 60 seconds rip apart 5 discs from their printable surface from the bottom half.
I do like how the print images look on these discs. I use my Canon MP990 (dye-based ink) to print on discs. However, the surface has a slight “sticky” feel to it. Reminds me of the back top of an off-brand post-it note.

You really can't do any better than Taiyo Yuden. If you have problems, look at your burner, not these discs. I've found that blowing discs before a burn, helps to insure a successful burn ;)
SMS...please provide better shipping. Smartpost is appalling. UPS is simply epic! Fedex is also ok. But smartpost = epic fail! I like getting my packages in 3 days. Not 8 - 9.

TY's PrintPlus Semi Glossy White DVD-Rs have a fine printable surface that dries very fast and looks almost as good as the surface on the previous TY Watershield DVD-Rs I used before when I wanted a water resistant printable surface. Since the PrintPlus DVD-Rs cost about 40% less per DVD-R than the Watershields, they are a bargain for a quality product.

as a frequent buyer of the Taiyo-Yuden discs, and other products, I am VERY satisfied with Supermediastore overall, BUT, their recent shipping switch to the combined Fedex/USPS method is TERRIBLE - my deliveries have gone from a reliable 2 days, to 8 days, and sometimes no tracking number, etc. ... BRING BACK UPS !!!

This was the first time I've ordered in quite a while, but I knew the quality of the product would be great. Taiyo Yuden has never failed me. The only issue I had was that it took 4 days for delivery. It may not seem like a lot to most, but I live 109 miles away from the warehouse, and my old orders would be here in 1-2 days. Will I order again....absolutely, I've never gotten anything but quality products from SuperMediaStore.com

This new print surface feels a little rough to the touch buy it prints beautifully, dries quick and looks fantastic. Once completely dry it is water-proof. Never had problems with Ty discs and these are no exception. I just ordered 200 more!!

I like these a lot - the semi-matte finish is pretty much what you would see on a regular store-purchased DVD - good enough for me, and top-quality burning with any Taiyo-Yuden disc, as always ... thousands burnt, and no coasters, yet !

Too many defective DVDs

I usually buy the Taiyo Yuden Value Line and maybe get one dud or defective DVD per 300 or 400. I opened up my first spindle of this product and out of the first 60 DVDs I had 5 defective DVDs.
However, the semi-gloss finish is quite nice and gives the DVD more of a professional finish compared to the finish of the Value line.

after hundreds of inferior-brand discs failed me after time, I settled on TAIYO-YUDEN a long time ago ... I've burned thousands of Taiyo DVD-R discs, with never a coaster - if you have problems with these discs, YOU are doing something wrong ... these 'Print-Plus' discs print beautifully in my Epson Artisan 50 printer - I couldn't be happier ! ... I will buy these exclusively in the future, too

Not what i expected

I like the semi gloss better than matte finish,the print is nice like almost photo finish.I rate 2 stars on quality because so far 2 out of 5 disc i used were bad it stop from the beginning then jump from the next scene. The price is ok but if i will going to have more bad disc on this batch then it will be very disappointing.I still have 95 disc left to see what's going to happen.

While the surface is indeed glossy, the not flat look of the finished product is not what I was expecting. I had hoped that the finish might be a bit more smooth than what it actually dries to. The client did like the product and I will probably use this product again. I now know what the printed outcome will be and will take that into consideration for client(s) need(s).

Really pleased with TY PrintPlus Semi Gloss DVD-R discs. Nice printed results from my Epson PP100 DiscProducer burner/printer. No bad burns so far after approximately 75 burns.
Not as glossy as the TY Water Shield discs, but still nice professional looking printed results. I will likely purchase more!

I only use TY blank media now and have very good success with them. I love the printable ones. My first time trying these semi gloss ones and they're very nice. I also use the glossy and the printable silver. I like the glossy the best. If my graphic isn't that good, I use the silver and maybe the semi gloss. The printable silver reminds me of Lightscribe, but in color.

I love these discs. They are waterproof, smear proof and look WAYYYY better than a normal matt finish disc. For the price difference, it is well worth it. And also, you may get one coaster out of a thousand.

These discs have a water resistant, shiny surface that brings out the colors when printed on it. When you care about look as much as quality these discs are the way to go. I gave them a 4 because I think they can do better on the price.

cheaper than WaterShield. almost as effective

I bought these instead of WaterShield media because they are cheaper while still having water resistant properties. I compared the results between regular JVC inkjet, PrintPlus inkjet, and WaterShield inkjet using a Epson CD printer. After printing the same image on each, I let them dry for 24 hours and then wet my finger and tried to smear the ink. The regular inkjet media made an instant mess while the other two held up just fine with the only damage being some slight discoloration of the wet area.
The surface of the PrintPlus is textured and almost organic-like with a semi-gloss finish. I think it works well with my project as I am using it for nature videos, but it's different than anything else and not smooth and shiny like the WaterShield discs. The discs also seem to be physically thicker than other types of media.
I'm very satisfied with this product and experienced no nonburnable "coaster" discs.

Your graphics will look even better on this glossy surface compared to a regular dull disc. Taiyo Yuden has always been the best, and now this lower price point really puts them in the lead. I've gone through thousands of these and have gotten maybe one or two coasters.

I love the semi gloss print, but disc are not as thin as other printable disc, may be harder on dvd drive or player??? I have had thicker disc before and video seems to freeze on them, have not had one of these to freeze yet though.

Taiyo Yuden is the best. These discs continue to perform exactly as I expect. I have however ran into a few, that I had to reburn, due to defects near the outer edge of the disk. But 1 - 2 out of 100 is not bad. I think I've had 5/2000 that were questionably reliable, but the discs passed testing with flying colors :D

This product is a bargain version of Taiyo's watersheild. For the money, it is well worth it even though I would like to see a little smoother finish on the surface. Anyone who has printed on cheaper products knows that if you even barely touch the print it smudges or scratches. I have gone through about 2,000 of these so far and gotten maybe 5 coasters. I love this product.

The media itself is the typical high quality one expects from Taiyo-Yuden but it's the new semi-gloss printing surface that should be noted. While simple black on white printing shows little difference compared to a matte printing surface, color printing gets a 20% improvement in quality in my opinion. The colors are richer and photo images look better with a semi-gloss surface. There is an underlying texture to the semi-gloss surface that's noticeable if you look carefully but to the average person who picks up the disc and throws it into a player, it's a clear improvement.

The only advantage of this disc surface is saving me the extra step of spray sealing. However, my spray-sealed (standard) discs look better.
Surely the manufacturer can come up with a smoother, more professional looking finish that can still be semi-gloss!

Not semi-gloss but semi-smooth

I was looking for another good product from TY but this item is not what I want. It may take ink ok and I'm sure the media itself is great but the printing surface is not smooth. It looks like a toad's skin. Not my idea of semigloss. I would not sell these DVDs to my customers nor use them for myself except as intermediates.

Excellent discs. I was using the watershields. They're too expensive, and have roller marks when finished. These are a wonderful alternative. Price is reasonable, quality is good. Shipping was very good via UPS. UPS is always predictably on time :D

High Quality with a Reasonable Price...

So far I have used about 20 of these and all have recorded flawlessly. The semi-gloss print surface is also nice, not as shiny as water-shield but better than regular white hub printable discs. They also print better on my Epson than the water-shield do. Overall a great disc which is typical from TY and I would recommend to anyone who likes their DVD's to look as good as they play.

I upgraded to these discs after creating multiple coasters with the TY premium Silver lacquer 16X -R discs. I was finally sent a return UPS label to send back the defective discs and have received a refund.
I've only used a few of these new discs and so far, I haven't had any problems.

These are almost the worst looking DVD’s I have seen. It looks like they applied the glossy finish from their top of the line (Taiyo Yuden Water Shield), then damaged it. Imagine spraying glossy white paint and then before it dries you put your fingers prints all over it or laid a fine grade cheese cloth on it and pulled it away. The colors are great. The burning surface looks good, but not perfect. I was excited to try these. I have been buying the “Taiyo Yuden Water Shield” which cost more, but the surface on them is too glossy, my printer leaves wheel marks on them. These semi-gloss do not show the wheel marks at all. I wish I could have just bought 50. Could have been packaged better, the cake box lid was smashed down over the outer edge of the base, it was very difficult to get the lift off. The sides of the cake box were well protected with bubble wrap and peanuts but the top/bottom only had a thin layer of shipping peanuts, could have used a slight larger box. TY could improve on the cake box, the lid fits too loose and does not lock well like other brands.

The DVDs are top-of-the-line. I, too, purchased during the Buy One Get One Free Promotion. I ordered on January 31st and still have yet to receive my "One Free" order. I emailed Customer Service and after 3 tries I was told to CALL Customer Service. I called and a lady told me it would be mailed. It has been 9 days since that call and nothing. I tried emailing again today and they said they would get back to me shortly. I've had great service up until this point. Really makes me not want to do any further business with this company if we're going to get "thrown under the bus" everytime there is a promotion like this.
