My first time actually using LightScribe, even though I have been using LightScribe burners for a few years. I never really had the need for it before, but a friend needed help with a project, so I but two 50 pack spindles. The results were stellar.
I dropped a star on the price meter because even though SuperMediaStore.com had the best price, I do believe these discs can be manufactured and sold a bit cheaper.
One note: If you have never used LightScribe before, you will need disc labeling software (if you do not already have it). I recommend using SureThing CD Labeling Software.

I've used HP's LightScribe DVDs preferentially now for over a year. I have no complaints about the DVDs. My only real complaint is about UPS, which apparently uses ox-drawn wagons to travel between California and Chicago, as well as gorillas in its sorting facilities! I changed from a Samsung SH-S223L DVD writer to a Samsung SH-B123L Blu-Ray combo drive recently. Write speed using this media slowed from 16X to 14X and average LightScribe write times increased from 3min. to 4min. Hopefully, this is a firmware glitch that Samsung will eventually address.

These are genuine HP Lightscribe discs. Some other brands cost more and the image fades after a few months. These hold up well and are at a great price. I have never had a problem with an HP Lightscribe disc.

CMC Magnetics makes these discs; MID (manufacturer I.D.): CMC MAG M01-00. (The MID is written to the disc in the reserved area, and can be read by most burning programs.) CMC is based in Taiwan and is one of the largest manufacturers of optical media, including such brands as HP, Imation, Memorex, Philips, TDK, Verbatim (Life series only), Staples, Office Depot brand, and many OEM brands.
So what? Well, this is real mass-market stuff, where price is the most important consideration. It has a reputation as second-class media at such tech hobbyist websites as myce.com (formerly cdfreaks), nomorecoasters.com, videohelp.com, et.al. That means it is considered hit and miss, not nearly as reliable as first-class media. Mitsubishi Chemical and Taiyo Yuden are generally thought to be first-class. I purchased two HP Lightscribe version 1.2 16x DVD+R media 50 pack in a cake box for a reasonable price and from a well known manufacturer “HP”. I burned ten DVD’s and tested on my desktop computer w/ ASUS M3A70 PRO motherboard and an HP dvd1270 lightscribe burner. These Medias worked fine on my desktop computer, but I then played the media on my Panasonic DVD/VHS Home Theater Sound System model# SA-HT830V and each media pixilated. I don’t know if it is due to the thickness of the HP media at .048 inch compared to Verbatim Lightscribe 30 pack cake which measures .050 inch. I think it is more based on the Lightscribe Gold film that is on the media. HP’s media is almost transparent compared to Verbatim. I believe during the burning process is when data is corrupted. I am very disappointed in SuperMediaStore for selling a product with such poor quality. I don’t think I’ll be purchasing anymore media here, but will go back to their competitor at newegg.com.

The Picture is misleading, It shows lightscribe Colours, but, I can use them anyway I have talked to a sales rep about this, and she said they do not have any, I found out from HP they are not making them anymore, a lot of people don't want to take the time to use lightscribe, as it takes anywhere from 25 mins to 38 mins to burn the label which is about 5 times longer then burning the movie, musik, or data. but I have time, plus you can burn the label and run another program at the same time, I think HP will ditch this product in the near future any way. as more and more people go for Blu-ray media which you can get hard ware and software to ink jet the labels on and it's really fast to. till then I will use LightScribe till they ditch it all together. but right now the product is great, and price is really good also, and I just hate the paper labels they tend to wrap or bend the disk over time. but hey its just my opinion thanks
