With two layers of data, a single side
of a double or dual layer DVD can record up to 8.5GB of information in 16X. Dual Layer,
DVD-R DL, was developed by Pioneer, while Double Layer, DVD+R DL, was developed
by Philips. The terms Dual Layer and Double Layer are not strictly differentiated,
so be careful in your purchase and note the + or - sign. Not all burners have
double layer/dual layer recording capabilities, however, all modern DVD-ROM
and players can play this type of
DVD media.
Potentially, with a two sided double layer disc, you could burn up to 17GB of data
onto one disc. This type of media is not yet available here, but SuperMediaStore.com
will bring you the latest in media technology once it's available on the market.
