4mm DDS/DAT Tapes

DAT (Digital Audio Tape) Tape was first developed by Sony in the 1980s. DAT tapes look similar to audio cassette tapes. They both use a 4mm magnetic tape that's enclosed in a shell. 4mm DAT tapes record in digital format rather than analog and is able to record in greater sampling rates than a blank CD. DDS (Digital Data Storage) Tape evolved from DAT technology. Like DAT tapes, DDS tapes are perfect for backing up small network servers and PC workstations or small to medium-sized networks. Sony and Hewlett Packard were the pioneers of the DDS technology. Early DDS format could be read by both DAT and DDS tape machines.
