I took a couple of used CDs and cut them into guitar picks. It saves me money and having to throw away used CDs.
All I did was trace a normal guitar pick with a sharpie onto a used CD (You get about 6 out of a single CD), cut it out with scissors, then I used sand paper to file down the edges and polish them down if needed. One CD worth can take up to a few hours depending on how polished you want the picks to be.
Picks cost around $5.00 for a pack of 12. Making them yourself using old CDs would cost around 50 cents for 12 if you used new CD-Rs.
This is a great money saver and they look cool too!
