If you have stacks of DVDs and CDs lying around, you are putting your music, video, or data at risk. A DVD or CD is much more likely to be damaged if they are unprotected. Even the simplest case or cover can prevent them from being scratched, nicked, or contaminated.

Preservation is one issue. The messy appearance of piles and stacks of DVDs and CDs is another. Making a basic sleeve or cover for discs means they can be more clearly labeled and organized.

Here are instructions for making a simple case or sleeve for a DVD or CD out of an ordinary sheet of paper. It may not be fancy, but it is a easy way to protect and organize your discs.

Instructions for Making a CD-DVD Case from a Sheet of Paper
Step 1

Use an ordinary 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.

Step 2

Fold the left and right side to the center

Step 3

Fold the bottom edge up, then fold it back, forming the pocket.

Step 4

Fold the top edge down and then fold it back. This will make the spine and top flap.

Step 5

Spread the sides of the pocket to the sides to create "wings". The fold lines may be off slightly depending on your printer.

Step 6

Tuck the wings behind the front part of the pocket. Flatten the pocket so the disc will stay in the pocket. Then make two little dog ears on the top flap.

Step 7

Tuck the top flap into the pocket.

Step 8

You're done! You now have a protective cover for a CD or DVD.

Of course, if homemade paper cases aren't your style, you can find great deals on cases and covers on-line.
